Welcome to Gulfport Florida and South Pasadena, Florida, two little cities on Boca Ciega Bay that share a common border and depend on one another for commerce, healthcare, culture and recreation, (including many mom and pop restaurants). With big city St. Petersburg to the East and the glitzy beach communities to the West, these two cities are often overlooked when describing Southwest Pinellas County.

A Tale of Two Cities

The City of Gulfport Florida was established in 1910 and began its life as a quaint fishing village and later became a Mecca for snowbirds in the 1920s and 30s. Today it is a 2.8 square mile, mostly residential community of 12,200 people with a perfectly delightful Historic Waterfront District featuring a lovely beach, several fine shops and many family owned restaurants. Over the years, Gulfport became a magnet for area artists who found the quiet city a great place in which to nurture the creative spirit and produce great work. Apparently the highly creative and quirky spirit of its artists has spread throughout the city to the extent that Gulfport now has a proud reputation for, shall we say, being a little, “different.” When strolling around the waterfront area, one runs into signs a tee shirts sporting such slogans as, “Keep Gulfport Weird,” or “If you’re too weird for Gulfport, you’re just too weird.” Sanity prevails in its residential districts especially near the Gulfport campus of Stetson College of Law, Florida’s largest private law school.

South Pasadena…

with only 5000+/- residents is anything but weird being partially buffered from Gulfport by a small, unincorporated community and the elegant, gated, Pasadena Yacht and Country Cub on Gulfport’s Western border. From its establishment in 1955, it has become a major provider of goods and services to the rapidly growing and prospering beach communities, Gulfport and the Western edges of St. Petersburg. Much of its population lives in attractive, high-rise condominiums and canal fronted retirement homes. When the regional Palms of Pasadena Hospital opened its doors and brought with it many medical offices staffed by physicians in almost every medical discipline, several long-term care and rehabilitation facilities were soon to follow. While a delightful place in which to live, it can safely be said that South Pasadena is the retail, services and medical center for the broader region.

Chamber Mixers…

Every third Thursday of the month the Chamber puts together a mixer at one of the Member Businesses. The mixers are an excellent way to network with other businesses and also gives you an opportunity to tell people who you are and what you have to offer.

Please join us from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm.
